Share prices up at NSE

MUMBAI, NOV 10: Share prices shot up on the first day of the current settlement at the National Stock Exchange today due to all-round heavy buying by operators. Since Bombay Stock Exchange remained closed today, buyers' attention turned towards NSE, brokers said. Pivotals resumed with overnight strength and continued their forward march due to hectic buying and as a result, Nifty gained around 18 points over yesterday's close.

Mirroring the general trend, the S&P CNX Nifty index started higher at 1371.60 and rose further to touch an intra-day high of 1392.55 before closing at 1389.10, revealing a smart rally of 17.90 over the previous close of 1371.20.

The CNX Nifty junior rallied by 86.40 to 2770.60 as against the last close of 2684.20. S&P CNX Defty rose by 14.30 and ended at 1108.60 as against 1094.30 yesterday. S&P CNX 500 firmed up by 16.84 to 1021.05 from yesterday's close of 1004.21 and CNX Midcap 200 hardened by 24.41 to close at 937.20 as against the previous day's close of 912.79.

The total turnover was Rs 3040.22 crore from 957.48 lakh shares and in 3,28,785 trades. Debentures turnover was Rs 8.08 lakh. Total market capitalisation was Rs 6,97,592 crore. In the market, a large number of 833 securities advanced, 232 declined and 40 held steady. 143 securities had hit their price bands. The most actively traded securities were SatyamComputers with a turnover of Rs 593.72 crore, Silverline Rs 250.20 crore, Zee Tele Rs 239.71 crore, Ranbaxy Rs 216.30 crore and Pentafore Rs 211.67 crore.
