Verma report -- RBI assures unions

MUMBAI, NOV 10: The Reserve Bank of India governor Bimal Jalan assured bank unions that their views would be considered before finalising M S Verma panel's recommendations on weak banks. Unions have come out against the government's reported plan to dilute its stake in state-run banks below 51 per cent and allow foreign capital in the insurance sector.Jalan told the unions, who met him here yesterday, that strengthening of the banking sector was an important priority for the country.
