11 injured as dacoits raid hamlet

PUNE, NOV 10: Eleven persons including two women were seriously injured whenattacked by a gang of dacoits at Wadgaon Shinde village off Pune-Solapurhighway late last night.

The injured were Kondiba Haribhau Shinde (60), his sons Ganapat (35) andSantosh (30), Santosh's wife Asha (28), Kondiba's relatives Vilas NarayanShinde (18), Ramesh Kisan Shinde (30), Uttam Kisan Shinde (50), Gulab KisanShinde (45), Dhanaji Dinkar Shinde (50), neighbour Namdeo Maruti Kakade (40)and his wife.

Police said the two families were celebrating Diwali at Kondiba Shinde'shouse at Shinde Vasti hamlet, located about half km from Wadgaon Shindevillage, when the dacoits struck. The victims had left the door open andwere taken by surprise.

The victims were thrashed up when they tried to protest. The dacoitssnatched all the jewellery worn by women. During their 45 minute stay atShinde's residence, the dacoits ransacked the house and took cash of Rs1,100 which was kept in a suitcase.

Meanwhile, some residents of Wadgaon Shinde village rushed to the spot onhearing cries for help. The dacoits came out of the house and startedhurling stones toward the villagers. The villagers retaliated and the stonepelting went on for nearly half an hour. One of the dacoits suffered minorinjuries but was carried away by his accomplices.

The dacoits beat a retreat when the villagers started advancing towardShinde's house. The villagers chased the robbers, but in vain.

The profusely bleeding members of Shinde and Kakade families were shifted tothe Sassoon Hospital by the villagers. Later, sub-inspector in-charge ofLoni Kalbhor police station Mahadeo Ombase went to the hospital and recordedAsha's first information report (FIR). In her FIR, Asha has estimated theprice of the booty at over Rs 10,000. The injured were stated to be out ofdanger.
