PUNE, NOV 10: Twenty-one young volunteers of the Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth (JDV) attached to the Papal Seminary, Ramwadi, left for Bhubaneshwar with relief packages for survivors of the cyclone that ravaged Orissa recently.A week back the students swung into action and launched a donation drive on campus, collecting clothes, soaps, medicines, candles and match-boxes to be distributed in Orissa. Father Noel Sheth, principal, JDV, said the volunteers, who have already spent a packet on the railway tickets, and malaria tablets so far, have left without the crucial cholera vaccinations, since ``their attempts to procure the vaccine from various hospitals and medical stores did not produce any positive response.''
The volunteers between 20-28 years, including three sister nurses, headed by Father Lourdes Daniel, left for Orissa on November 8 by Konark Express.A second batch of volunteers is preparing to leave shortly, said Father Sheth.
