NEW DELHI, NOV 10: Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin has expressed pain over the National selectors not even considering his name for selection, but was confident he would make a comeback into the squad. The 36-year-old, who has not been considered since he took a break to undergo a shoulder surgery immediately after India's World Cup campaign in June, said it was very embarrassing that the selection committee chairman had said his name was not even considered.``I am extremely disappointed with the way things have gone. I certainly think I deserved to get a chance. I'm even more pained that the chairman of selectors said my name was not even considered, it was really embarrassing,'' he told Sports Time, a daily Sports programme of TWI aired on DD.
Azhar, who hit an unbeaten 200 against Goa in Hyderabad's opening South Zone Ranji Trophy tie at Panaji two days ago said he had worked on his batting and hoped to score three or four more double hundreds and ``leave the rest to destiny''.
Refuting criticism that he was `aloof' as captain, Azhar said his emergence as the most successful Indian captain was his ``willingness to tell the boys the right thing at the right time''.
Azhar, who hit it off well with Ajit Wadekar as manager, said he regarded the former Indian skipper as the best coach. ``He was a different person, an extremely good administrator who made us all realise our priorities.''
