EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

SAS NAGAR, NOV 15: The Mohali Industries Association has condemned the insertion of Section 24, relating to prosecution and imprisonment for procedural violation, in the Punjab General Sales Tax Act, 1948. In its executive meeting held today, Association members said it was a "Black Law" and a threat to the fundamental rights of the industry and dealers to carry out free trade. The members said giving such vast powers to Sales Tax Department, will lead to further exploitation of the business community. They said the penalties provided under the Act are already very harsh and coupling these with imprisonment will add to the agony and terror for the industrialists.
