CHANDIGARH, NOV 15: "India's share in polio cases has come down to 28 per cent as of August 31, 1999, against nearly 50 per cent in 1998. And the target is to achieve zero per cent by the end of2000."This was stated by R.K. Saboo, former president of Rotary International, while addressing mediapersons here today.
India has reported 945 cases, against the global figure of 3,344, in which Asian and African countries are leading.
Deputy Commissioner M. Ramsekhar said the administration is all geared up to ensure that all children are given polio drops in the forthcoming second round of the national Pulse Polio programme on November 21.
As a part of the Pulse Polio awareness campaign, Rotary will form a human chain on November 17 which is expected to span 100 km. The human chain in the city is being organised by all the four Rotary Clubs along with members of the Innerwheel, and Chandigarh Administration.
