Chandigarh, Nov 15: The Chandigarh Chakki Owners Association has demanded an inquiry into the running of unauthorised flour mills and cotton carding machines operating in and around the city.In a memorandum submitted to the Advisor to the UT Administrator here today, the Association highlighted various problems faced by the city flour mill owners. Association president Gian Chand Gupta also submitted a list of the unauthorised flour mills and cotton carding centres operating in the city.
According to the memorandum, Chakki Owners have also alleged harassment at the hands of the electricity department on one pretext or another. The Association has demanded a stop to this harassment and sought installation of a check meter for the convenience of the consumers.
An immediate ban on unauthorised mobile chakkis installed on tractors has also been demanded. Besides,the need for installation of a standard weighing machine and the facility of electricity-driven cleaning machine has also been mentioned. The memorandum also stated that the authorised chakkis in villages be saved from the cumbersome process of getting their permissions renewed every three years. There is a need for the appointment of an auctioner as per the agriculture market produce Act and flour mill owners should be permitted to sell consumer goods considering their low profits, the memorandum added.
