Want a tonic for diabetes, hypertension?

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
KARLA, Nov 15: ``Music is not just for entertainment but should be made part of life as it can be a cure for many ailments.''

Speaking on the centenary birthday celebrations of Vasudeo Tambe Shastri, a living legend among Vedic pandits, the renowned ayurvedacharya Balaji Tambe said that Indian life incorporates music at all level of existance throughout the day. He said for healing, music uses forms and compositions based on ragas to suit the time of the day and the balance required.

He said music itself is a nerve tonic as sound is one of the natural forces working wonders at physical and mental level. He said healing music can cure not only hypertension and diabetes but also lack of sleep, protein loss and loss of confidence and vitality.

Dr Tambe noted that the world consists of the five elements of earth, water, fire, air and space and if you strike a balance of these five elements we will be happy. The occasion was also the 60th birthday celebrations of Dr Tambe.

``I realised,'' said Dr Tambe, ``that the approach of Indian healing music is communication at all three levels. Vocal singing is very important, alongwith the wind instruments like flute, shehnai, organ and harmonium. Drums that are covered with a leather skin are particularly effective in healing music as compared to other percussion instruments. But any instrument can be used for healing music, including those that produce electronic sounds, as the sound carries vibrations,'' he added.

He said that the coming new millennium is a perfect example of space age with speed and communication being the most important factors to make life more enjoyable and successful. Sound, which is a product of space, is the triggering mechanism for communication in healing music, the rhythm, connects us with the earth and the melody connects us with space, he opined.

Dr Tambe, said healing music is excellent remedy to counter the environmental pollution and crowding of space due to increase in population healing music offers a beautiful and economic remedy for healing. The concerts have proved very effective as a means of mass communication and healing, after every concert, a few members of the audience always describe what a thrilling experience they have had, or how their health has improved significantly.

Dr Tambe runs an ayurvedic health and research centre at Karla and has Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, former defence minister Sharad Pawar and BJP leader Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia and other topmost politicians andindustrialists regularly visiting his centre.
