National day for the deaf on Nov 17

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Nov 15: The second National Day for the Deaf has been organised on November 17 by the Association of Otolaryngologists of India (ENT surgeons) with a free check-up camp to be held at the ENT department of the Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical Foundation's Bharati Hospital, Dhankawadi.

ENT surgeons will examine senior citizens above 50 years free of charge, and hearing-impaired senior citizens will be provided hearing aids at concessional rates, from 9 am to 1 p.m. Arrangements have also been made for free general check-up for poor and needy senior citizens on the same day.

The National Day for the Deaf is held to create awareness about prevention, detection and management of deafness in society. Since '99 is the International Year of the Elderly, special preferences will be given to senior citizens above 50 years.
