NOVEMBER 15: One person was arrested recently by sleuths of the Air Intelligence Unit on charges of smuggling Rs 5.75 lakh in Indian currency at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. According to Air Intelligence Unit sources, the accused, Nazeer Valiyspunamhad, took a flight to Dubai on November 10 along with a checked-in baggage comprising a carton containing hairbands.However, Valiyspunamhad returned to India on November 12 after he was refused landing in Dubai by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities along with a ``mishandled'' baggage.
After searching through the baggage, Air Intelligence Unit sleuths seized a total of 115 hairbands which were found to contain 1,150 notes in denominations of Rs 500. Valiyspunamhad has confessed to having smuggled the currency at the behest of one Abdullah. He has been remanded to custody till November 29.
