NEW DELHI, NOV 15: Amid charges of plagiarising the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday cleared names of MLAs to be inducted in the Ram Prakash Gupta Cabinet to be expanded on Tuesday. It also rejected ousted CM Kalyan Singh's demand for a change in State party organisation.``We did not hold Kalyan Singh responsible for party's debacle in Lok Sabha elections in the State. He himself wished to step down. BJP believes in collective responsibility. Therefore, we don't hold State party president Raj Nath Singh responsible for the poor performance either. He too wished to step down but has been told to continue,'' the party general secretary KN Govindacharya said on Monday.
Asked to comment on Kalyan's demand for Raj Nath's head, Govindacharya said the ex-CM had only demanded a thorough analysis of election results which was already underway at various fora. ``His statement should not be construed to mean that he was demanding Raj Nath's removal,'' he said.
The BJP, thus, put a stop tospeculations that an organisational overhaul was being planned in UP after replacing the chief minister. It also signalled that the party wanted to cut Kalyan to size.
A similar indication emanated from the party's decision to reverse all major decisions taken by Kalyan during his last two days in office including appointment of his favourite corporator Kusum Rai as chairperson of State Womens' Commission.
Meanwhile, Kalyan's successor Ram Prakash armed with list of Cabinet-hopefuls airdashed here on Monday evening to get the names cleared by the party chief, Kushabhau Thakre and Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani. This is the first time that a BJP Chief Minister has rushed to consult party high command before Cabinet expansion.
