Bhuj, Nov 21: The Kutch Unit of BJP controlled by the Suresh Mehta group seems to be heading for a showdown with Chief Keshubhai Patel over the Narmada water issue. Not only have MP Pushpadan Gadhavi and Rajya Sabha Member Anant Dave from Kutch along with other top functionaries of the group undertaken an extensive tour of the district to garner support, but the party has also organised a public meeting here on Wednesday over this and other issues.
According to Press release issued by the party inviting those interested to the meeting, district party president Arun Vachharajani sent two letters to Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel on October 19 and November 11 seeking an appointment with him to discuss the Narmada issue, but the CM failed to respond.
The Mehta group, which faced an open revolt on the issue from the Kutch Kisan Sangh, the most powerful RSS outfit in the State when the latter, through a newspaper advertisement, asked people not to vote for Pushpadan in the last parliamentary elections, is also demanding more allocation of Narmada water and launching of the Kutch canal work from next year.
