Punjab pensioners to stage protest marc

Chandigarh, Nov 21: The pensioners of Punjab Government and semi-government employees will march to Vidhan Sabha, on the first day of its winter session, to protest against the anti-pensioner and adamant attitude of the Punjab government. The general secretary of Punjab Pensioners' Association, Ajit Singh Bagri, said they would demand an immediate settlement of their demands.

The association, in an unanimously adopted resolution, strongly protested the recent increase in bus fare and also appealed to the Chief Minister to withhold the expansion of his Cabinet, considering the financial ill-health of the state.

It was also decided that December 17 would be observed as "Senior Citizens' Day" jointly with the Central Government pensioners.

Art exhibition inaugurated
Yuva Srijan, a youth development programme, including an unique Art and Craft training camp-cum-exhibition, was inaugrated today at Lajpat Rai Bhawan, Sector 15-B. It is being organised by Servants of the People Society in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra. The programme will be on for ten days and will impart training to about 400 girls in 12 different disciplines .

Speaking on the occasion, Onkar Chand, secretary of the Society, highlighted the role of Lala Lajpat Rai in the freedom struggle of India. A youth convention on "Indian Youth: The Aspiration and Role In Realisation" was also organised by Jan Shakti under the auspices of the society. The participants included ten students from various colleges of Chandigarh and also from Panjab University to represent the viewpoint of youth.

Where the youngsters wanted that their feelings should be understood by their elders, the older lot wanted that the young should deliver their responsibility towards society. The function was presided over by Prof Ashok Sahni, dean, University Instructions.
