WASHINGTON, NOV 25: The United States has said it was considering selling missile shields to Taiwan following reports that China was expanding a missile base on its mainland about 275 kms from Taiwan.State Department Spokesman James Rubin said on Wednesday that the Clinton administration was closely monitoring the military balance in the Taiwan Strait and was considering the sale of Theatre Missile Defence systems (TMDs) to Taiwan.
``We do not preclude the possible sale of such systems to Taiwan in near future," Rubin told the Washington Times, adding us had "an active dialogue" with the Taiwanese government on the issue.
