PUNE, Nov 25: The rising demand for water has forced the Pune municipal administration to introduce zoning system to ensure that all parts of the city get adequate water supply.Additional city enginner (water supply) V G Dhadphale told the civic general body today that demand for water had recorded a sharp increase in the past few days and administration was facing number of difficulties while meeting the need. He said the zoning system had been introduced to ensure that all parts of the city get adequate water once in a day. He also assured the agitated corporators that he would take all the steps to supply adequate water during the day time.
Earlier, corporator Bhagwan Kshirsagar complained that areas on Sinhgad Road and Dattwadi were not getting water for the last few days and added that the civic administration was not sending water tankers to the affected parts. Another corporator Devki Shetty also complained that residents in Mangalwar Peth and Rasta Peth were getting inadequate water.
Answering a question raised by Shiva Mantri, Additional Municipal Commissioner Ashok Deeshpande told the meeting that action would be taken against those hotels in Erandwane which were found using parking space for commercial purposes.
