NEW DELHI, November 25: All you smug and snug Delhiites out there, take a break from sipping cups of garam chai, shed the woollies, because it's party-till-you-drop time with MTV. Brace yourself for the onslaught of the Cyrus virus. Beginning Friday, besides welcome household pests Cyrus B and Cyrus S, Nikhil, Asif and Amrita too gang up to bring to the Capital the world's longest dance party -- 50 hours of non-stop music, 30 live artistes and 10 DJs -- at Fireball.Today, however, you are trying hard to duck the VJs' crossfire, are weary of Cyrus's wisecracks and about to give up hope of ever getting a printable story when... you finally get the hang of timing your questions in the split-second between the slurping of noodles.
So, you ask, are they all revved up for the party? Well, not all of them. Nikhil Chinapa, who has his chin up from recently graduating in architecture with top honours from Bangalore's BMS College, has his doubts about Delhiites' adrenaline potential. ``It's great, it's happening here but I feel it would be a bigger hit in college and university towns like Bangalore, Pune and Manipal.'' The Bangalore boy barely has his words out of his mouth, that Cyrus Junior (as in the new VJ Cyrus Sahukar) butts in to remind him of the Daler-crazy Delhiites. ``But that's what worries me,'' says Chinapa. ``Will they be able to appreciate, say, four hours of non-stop trance (Nikhil's kinda music)?''
Cyrus Senior assures Delhiites should not worry since there will also be a reading room for those who are either foot-sore or just don't want to hit the dance floor.
Amrita Arora is a little quiet, probably learning to become more elusive and inaccessible, now that a debut on the silver screen is on the cards -- and we're not talking about a cameo Chhaiya chhaiya like big sister Malaika, but a lead role. So obviously that would mean goodbye to MTV except to resurface occasionally on MTV Filmi Fundas.
But what about the others? What's the number after they are handed out their epitaphs as VJs? Chinapa, smug with his architecture degree, dreams of becoming a bartender with his own night club. But he would also love to pursue scuba and sky diving, though he admits he eventually wants to return to his first love -- radio.
Cyrus Junior wants to make films, but ``I also have an overwhelming urge to act'', he adds. ``Yes he's working on a film right now, in fact, on the Mating Habits of Yetis in Nepal'' -- that one comes from Cyrus, of course.
Broacha himself, perhaps, will become a brand of sorts at the rate he is going, endorsing everything from Chandrika soap to Dairy Milk chocolates and Wrigleys, to Pepsi and Philips. Now watch out for Swatch. He certainly doesn't seem too fussy about lending his face to a product. ``Well, the moolah is great, why would anyone say no?''
Okay, millennium plans? Chinapa will be with buddies in Calcutta. Cyrus is going let his girlfriend -- who's coming from Boston -- decide: She's Hitler without a moustache, he says. Asif wants to be in Manali with friends. As for Amrita, since boyfriend, singer Kamal Khan, will be performing in Mumbai, she'll be with him.Cyrus Junior wants to be with family in Hyderabad.
