Pakistan rejects demand to disband PGPC

SATINDER BAINS
AMRITSAR, NOV 25: The Pakistan Government is reported to have rejected outright the demand of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to disband the Pakistan Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PGPC) as a precondition for sending Sikh jathasto Sikh shrines in Pakistan.

Reports received here from Lahore said an announcement to this effect was made by PGPC chairman Javed Nasir at a congregation in Gurdwara Nankana Sahib held to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. A large number of Sikhs from India, Canada, United States and Pakistan participated in the celebrations on Wednesday.

Sham Singh, co-chairman of the PGPC, who organised the Gurpurb celebrations, also gave a call to some Sikhs in India to bypass the SGPC channel and approach the Pakistan High Commission for a visa to visit Sikh shrines.
