Gadgil, Tilak intensify drive against Kalmadi

PUNE, Nov 25: Senior Congress leaders V N Gadgil and Jayantrao Tilak have intensified their drive against Rajya Sabha member Suresh Kalmadi when both of them recently called on Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Prataprao Bhosale and Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in Mumbai.

Gadgil and Tilak, who were accompanied by disgruntled corporators, mainly complained that the loyalist party workers who had never left the party, were getting unfair treatment by Kalmadi. The delegaThe sources said Deshmukh immediately called MPCC vice president Patangrao Kadam and asked him to look into the problem. Deshmukh, Bhosale and Kadam reportedly expressed their displeasure over the treatment being meted out to the loyalsits.

On the another hand Kalmadi camp has succeeded in engineering the split in the loyalist camp. Seven corporators of the loyalist camp, who had not left the party along with Suresh Kalmadi, have disapproved drive initiated by Gadgil and Tilak. The statement has said party fieled two of the three candidates from the loyalist camp and the party corporators should not have obtained signatures of BJP corporators while filing their nomination papers.

Pawar walks out
The factionaslim among the Congress corporators today came to the fore at general body when loyalist member Ramdas Pawar strongly condemned mayor Datta Gaikwad for not allowing him to speak at the meeting. Pawar accused mayor Datta Gaikwad of partisan behaviour. Reacting sharply Gaikwad asked Pawar to withdraw his allegation. Pawar, however, staged walkout condeming the mayor.
