Malaria cases on the rise in Madhya Pradesh
RAIPUR:
As many as 4019 malaria cases have been detected in Raipur district of Madhya Pradesh this year, with 12 deaths being reported last month. Authorities have identified seven villages in Kasdol area as the most affected. Eight deaths have been reported from the area. Rapid survey is being carried out in the severely-affected areas and the situation brought under some control after medical teams started work. Unofficial reports said malaria has spread in an epidemic form in several villages of Basna area of Mahasamund district.

`Public curfew' affects life in Manipur
IMPHAL:
The 18-hour All Manipur Students' Union sponsored `public curfew' in protest against the arrest of its top leaders affected normal life throughout the state today. Official sources said attendence in both State and Central Government offices was reported to be ``very thin''. Manipur Secretariat also wore a deserted look. Markets, shops, business establishments,banks and entertainment houses remained closed, though some shops in Paona Bazar complex in the heart of the town were open.

Seven BSP workers die in mishap
BASTI (UP):
Seven Bahujan Samaj Party workers were killed and two injured when the jeep they were travelling in dashed against a tree near Baburahwa village on the Basti-Faizabad National Highway today, officials said here.The BSP workers were returning from Lucknow after attending a party meeting when the accident occurred, they said, adding that those injured were former BSP MLA Shambhu Sharan and a prominent leader Ramanand Prasad.

5 suspected ULFA activists arrested
GUWAHATI:
Police arrested five suspected ULFA activists and two linkmen in Assam's Dhubri district yesterday, official sources said. The activists were arrested from Harar Hat area of the district.
