Cullinan spurs SA

REUTERS
JOHANNESBURG, NOV 26: Daryll Cullinan scored an unbeaten 94 and Herschelle Gibbs 85 to put South Africa firmly in command of the first Test today. They were 249 for three at tea on the second day, a lead of 127.

It proved a torrid afternoon for the touring team as they came up against Cullinan at the top of his game.

Opener Herschelle Gibbs was bowled for 85 in the sixth over of the session by Alan Mullally, his 295-minute innings including 11 fours.

But Cullinan picked up where Gibbs had left off and after a slow start reached his 50 off 103 balls.

South Africa, who had begun the day on 64 for one in reply to England's paltry first innings 122, also lost only one wicket in the morning session.

All-rounder Jacques Kallis gloved a legside catch to wicketkeeper Alec Stewart off Darren Gough.

Gough had to leave the field suffering from a sore left knee midway through the afternoon session.
