UT staff convention to fight against privatisation policy

CHANDIGARH, Nov 28: A delegate convention was organised by the Federation of UT Employees and Workers today at Bal Bhawan, Sector 23, to discuss various demands of the employees of Chandigarh Administration and to elect its new president. The demands include grant of bonus for the years 1997-98 and 1998-99, regularisation of daily wagers and work charged employees, payment of DA, HRA, CCA, and filling up of vacant posts. The convention also demanded abolition of contract labour system and objected to the privatisation of public sector employees.

More than 200 delegates represented different employee and worker unions of Chandigarh Administration departments. Addressing the convention, the leaders strongly criticised the economic and industrial policies of the Central Government, and asked the employees to strengthen their struggle against the policy of privatisation.
