CHANDIGARH, Nov 28: The Statehood Day of Karnataka was celebrated here today by Kannada Sangha, an association of about 250 Kannadigas working in the city, at "Lecma Hall", 3 BRD Air Force station A variety of cultural performances including a social drama were staged by the members of the association. It was a Kannadiga evening with regional group songs and classical dance performances.
The programme was kicked off by a group song by wives of the members, most of whom are in the Indian Air Force or various banks. The highlight of the occasion was a solo song in praise of Karnataka, originally sung by S.P. Balasubramanium. Kannada Sangha is one of the oldest linguistic associations in the city, formed in 1982 by a handful of Kannadigas from the IAF with an aim to preserve the heritage of Karnataka. Celebration of cultural festivals like Ugadi, Ganesh Chaturthi and statehood day has been a regular feature of the association.
The month of November is celebrated throughout the country by Kannadigas as Karnataka Rajyotsava (Statehood Day).
