Mukhtiar Singh does the trick for W Rly

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Mumbai, Nov 28®Western Railway registered their third triumph from four matches when they thrashed lowly Companeroes 8-0 in the Bombay Hockey Association Super League encounter at Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate, today.

The highlight of the game was four goals, including a hat-trick, by their consistent centre-forward Mukhtiar Singh.

Smarting over their 2-3 loss to Central Railway in their last match, Western left nothing to chance and began aggressively. They should have been four goals up, but for Companeroes custodian Lucio Fernandes' dare-devilry, before they struck first in the 20th minute through right-winger Ingo Singh. The goal proved a shot in the arm, as Western struck twice in the 22nd and 23rd minutes and wiped out any hopes Companeroes entertained of a win. First left-winger Shanta Kumar reverse-flicked into goal after controlling a loose ball and next, Mukhtiar reverse hit to the boards through goalkeeper Lucio's pads to make it 3-0.

On resumption, Chanderpal Singh made it 4-0, histop-of-the-circle drive brooking no response in the 37th minute. Western's best goal came in the 39th. Mukhtiar paved the way for Chanderpal with a stiff diagonal in the circle. The latter deflected in from close quarters.

A fine Western move down the middle in the 46th minute saw Mukhtiar get the better of onrushing goalkeeper Lucio with a neat scoop upon entering the circle for Western sixth goal.

In the 59th minute, Ingo covered good ground before he squared the ball to an unmarked Mukhtiar in the circle. The latter had all the time to trap the ball, turn and reverse hit into the goal past a helpless goalkeeper Lucio.Muktiar completed his hat-trick when he rounded-off the tally in the 69th minute. He capitalised on the rebound, following a try by Western inside-left Deepak Gupta.
