PERTH, NOV 28: Paceman Glen McGrath rekindled his bowling form with a series best 4-49 to inspire Australia to a innings and 20 runs win and a clean sweep of the three-Test series against Pakistan today. The win inside three days gave Australia their second 3-0 clean sweep in 17 series over Pakistan. Ian Chappell's side beat Pakistan by the same margin in the 1972-73 series.
Faced with the uphill task of salvaging a draw after conceding a 296-run first innings deficit, Pakistan went down swinging after a forceful century by Ijaz Ahmed.
``It was a major achievement,'' skipper Steve Waugh said. ``They are a very good cricket side, in the first three no doubt, so we played really well. ``We set ourselves a goal to win all six Tests this summer. We're half way there,'' Waugh said after his first home series as captain. Australia play India in a three-Test series. Ijaz hammered a 160-ball 115 runs before Pakistan was dismissed for 276, five minutes before the tea break on the third day.
After Pakistan werebowled out for 155 on the first day, Australia rallied around centuries by Justin Langer and man-of-the-match Ricky Ponting to hit up 451.
McGrath, who had just seven wickets in the series before the Test, finished with a match haul of 7-93.
Michael Kasprowicz, on a Test comeback, followed up his 4-53 with 3-79 to claim a match bag of 7-132.
Ijaz flayed the Australian pace attack, Damien Fleming in particular, before and after lunch in a characteristic use of the long handle and joined evergreen Javed Miandad as the highest century scorer for Pakistan against Australia six each.
He finally holed out to Michael Slater at square leg, top-edging a hook off Kasprowicz after hitting 16 boundaries.
He frustrated the Australians for 10 minutes under four hours as he combined with Azhar Mahmood, Moin Khan and skipper Wasim Akram to give the innings some respectability after the first four wickets had fallen for 56 runs.
