Naga rebels told to vacate truce office

GUWAHATI, DEC 2: In an interesting development following the attack on Nagaland Chief Minister S C Jamir by alleged NSCN (IM) guerrillas, the rebel outfit, which has a ceasefire agreement with the Centre, has been asked to vacate the Ceasefire Monitoring Office in Dimapur with immediate effect.

However, the NSCN (IM) is reported to have refuse.Reports from Kohima said the outfit has sought the intervention of K Padmanabhaiah, the interlocutor appointed by the Centre in the peace process between the NSCN and the Centre. According to reports from Kohima and New Delhi, the ceasefire appears to be on the verge of being called off.

Maj Gen RB Singh, Inspector General of the Assam Rifles, said today that the NSCN has been served a notice to this effect. Sources said the notice was served on the outfit on Wednesday .

The Assam Rifles has complained that the NSCN (IM) was misusing the CMO and carrying out extortions and other activities from the office.
