Kashmiri to discover India, courtesy Army
PRESS TRUST SERVICE

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 21: A group of 40 children from Jammu and Kashmir are on a mission sponsored by Army and Indian Oil Corporation to discover their country in all its diversity.

The kids, many of whom have never ventured out of their villages, are travelling across the length and breadth of the country, visiting New Delhi, Mumbai, Pune and Kanyakumari, thanks to a unique project started by the Army to introduce youngsters from the terrorism-ravaged state to their vast country in an attempt to bring them into the mainstream.

"The children, 11 to 14 years of age, had probably never seen a train or ship, and could only dream or watch on TV what the rest of their country looks like. This tour will enable them see and understand their beautiful nation better," Colonel Sukhbir Singh, Commanding Officer of 525 Army Service Corps (ASC) battalion, which is conducting the tour, told newsmen here today.
