Sheethal stuns sixth seed

LUCKNOW, DECEMBER 21: Sixth seed Keiko Tameishi of Japan lost to unseeded Indian girl Sheethal Gautham, while third seed Sai Jayalakshmy (India) and seventh seed Olgo Kaliojnaia of Russia moved up on the second day of the ITF Women's Circuit tennis championship at the Oudh Gymkhana Club.

Arthi Venkatraman (Ind), Katarina Daskovic (Yug), Marif Kondratieva (Rus), Olgo Kaliojnaia (Rus) and Nikita Bharadwaj also won their ties.

Gautham was downed 4-6 by Keiko in the first set. In the second, she had one ace and one double fault and lost the set 3-6. In the third and deciding set, Gautham took lead at 5-1 and at this point, Keiko conceded defeat due to problems with her racket, 4-6 6-3 5-1 in two hours.

Wild card Karishma Patel was beaten by seventh seeded Olga Kaliojnaia of Russia 6-4 (11-9) 7-6.

Third seed Sai beat Nandini Perumal 6-0 6-1 while Katarina Daskovic of Yugoslavia downed Anna Anikanova 6-1 6-4.
