AP launches project to provide one-stop services to citizens

HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 30: Andhra Pradesh on Thursday launched a novel project TWINS (twin cities integrated network services) to serve as a one-stop citizen services facility covering six departments.

The project, claimed to be the first such experiment in the country, would cover 18 citizen-related services including utility bill payments, issuance of certificates of caste, encumbrance, vehicle registration, driving licenses and municipal permits.

After inaugurating the project, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said his government would accord top priority for ushering in E-governance and using emerging information technology to improve interface with citizens and provide quick and transparent services.

The TWINS, completed in 18 months, symbolised effective use of information technology to improve government-citizen interface and would be extended to other parts of the state in a phased manner, Naidu said.

The project, being initially implemented in Banjara hills and Jubilee hills area of the city, aims at creating a networked platform for multi-delivery channels with value addition. It enables people to transact business under one roof with a guaranteed instant service, whether it is paying electricity bills or getting vehicle licence.

Employees drawn from each of the department covered under the scheme would be deployed at the one-stop centre to provide instant service to citizens, the state Information Technology Secretary J Satyanarayana said in his presentation at the launch.
