Another immolation bid by jobless in Orissa; 24 held
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

BHUBANESWAR, DEC 31: After the self-immolation attempt by six jobless certified trained teachers in front of School and Mass Education Minister's residence on Thursday, the unemployed Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree holders attempted immolation in front of the Chief Minister's official residence on Friday. Though one of the immolators sustained minor born injuries, immolation was averted due to police action.

Nearly 25 unemployed BEd degree holders, who were about to attempt immolation, were taken into custody by city police. Security arrangements have been tightened in front of the Chief Minister's residence and armed police have been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.

However, there is still resentment among locals over the incident.
