DUBAI, DEC 31: Former champions India brightened chances of topping Group A as they scored their second straight win by thrashing UAE Seniors 25-19 25-19 25-16 in the 5th Rashid International Volleyball tournament here last night.India, who had downed the strong Cuba in their inaugural encounter, proved unstoppable as they brushed aside the hosts to be just a step away from topping the group. India meet Pakistan late tonight in their final league clash.
In Group B, Tunisia scored their first win in two matches when they defeated Australia 3-0 to keep their semi-final hopes alive. The African and Arab champions, who went down to holders Ukraine in the opener, recovered well to win 25-23 29-27 25-23.
Cuba scored their first win in two outings when they prevailed over Pakistan 3-2 in a hard-fought encounter that went the full distance while Ukraine registered their second straight win beating UAE Juniors 3-0 on Wednesday night.
Cuba played their hearts out as they rallied twice from behind to eventuallywin 20-25 25-18 19-25 25-22 15-11.
