Kaif skipper for Jr World Cup
CHENNAI: Mohammad Kaif of Uttar Pradesh will lead the 14-member Indian team in the Under-19 World Cup to be held in Sri Lanka from January 11-28. Reetinder Sodhi of Punjab will be vice-captain. The team, coached by former Indian all-rounder Roger Binny, will leave for Colombo on January six. India succumb to Tunisia in a thriller
DUBAI: Three-time winners ndia crashed out of the fifth Rashid International volleyball tournament when they went down fighting 2-3 to Tunisia in an exciting semi-final on Sunday night. India did not allow any liberty to Tunisia, the Arab and African champions, until the finalset. In what turned out to be the best contested match of the tournament, India lost 18-25 25-27 25-21 25-21 11-15.
Tamil Nadu spikers claim grand double
TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: Tamil Nadu boys and girls won the 26th Junior National volleyball championship defeating Kerala and Pondicherry respectively on Sunday night. The girls defeated holders Kerala 16-25 25-19 25-17 25-16, while the boys won 25-17 25-18 25-22.
Andhra Pradesh children rule the roost
AURANGABAD: The XIIIth National Children Chess Championship concluded here on Monday with Andhra Pradesh children clinching titles in all age categories except the under-7 boys. Dronovali Harika and Dasari Sai Srinivas (7.5 pts each) were the champions in the under-9 girls and boys section respectively. Gauri Shankar (Kel) and K Phani Chandra (AP) claimed the boys and girls titles in the under-7 category.
