Maruti hikes car prices

NEW DELHI, JANUARY 6: Maruti Udyog today announced a sharp price hike of its various car models including entry level Maruti-800 in the range of Rs 20,000-40,000 and said it will upgrade its several variants with new Euro-II emission norms compliant engines.

The new prices of four versions of Maruti-800, the bread and butter model of Maruti, will go up by Rs 21,045-35,250 to Rs 2.08-2.71 lakhs (ex-showroom,Delhi) while the popular models Zen would be costlier by Rs 20,542-35,517 from tomorrow, Maruti managing director Jagdish Khattar told reporters here today.

Maruti has upgraded its mid-sized car Esteem with new Euro-II engine and additional features to justify the price increase of about Rs 33,000 per vehicle. Prices of Omni vans has been hiked between Rs 20,699 to Rs 34,191 to Rs 2.04-2.44 lakh.

Maruti has increased the price of its entry level model Maruti-800 standard with carburetor engine by Rs 21,045 to Rs 2.08 lakh. However, Euro-I compliant standard version would be costlier by Rs 25,263 at Rs2.17 lakh.

It has upgraded its Maruti-800 EX and DX versions by fitting a new Euro-II compliant engine which has 12 valves and three cylinders against the earlier carburetor based engine which had six valves and three cylindersThe prices of EX and DX versions with multi point fuel injection (MPFI) engine has been hiked by Rs 35,250 and Rs 33,587 respectively as the new prices will be Rs 2.48 lakh and Rs 2.71 lakh, Khattar said.

With the new engine, the brake horse power (BHP) of EX and DX variants would go up from 39.5 to 44.
