Three die in road mishaps

PUNE, FEBRUARY 21: Four persons were killed in three separate mishap here on Sunday.

Elias Shantavanrao Ghodke (39), a resident of Kamla Nehru Nurses quarters, Mangalwar Peth and Vidyadhar Dinkar Jadhav (70), a resident of Mukundnagar Swargate were killed, in a road mishap near Pirangut on the Paud Road at 10.30 am on Sunday.

Ghodke and Jadhav were proceeding on a moped to a church in Paud when a tempo carrying poultry chicks rammed into the vehicle from the opposite direction. Both sustained head injuries and died on the spot.

The drive of the tempo Sanjay Balasaheb Jape (25) and another passenger Ashok Gopal Sathe (42) sustained head injuries when the vehicle overturned after the mishap.

In another accidents, a 28-year-old youth James Sabestin, a resident of Century Vila, Wanowrie, was killed when his motorcycle was hit by a tempo. The mishap occurred near Golibar maidan at Kondhwa road at 9 pm. The driver of the tempo Venkatesh Laxman Gharjale (22), has been arrested by the Wanowrie police.

Inyet another mishap, Usman Kasam Shaikh (65), a resident of 112/8 Parvati Darshan was killed when he was hit by a speeding six-seater autorickshaw near Sawarkar statue at Swargate. The six-seater driver fled after the mishap. Shaikh, who was working as a watchman, was walking down the road when the mishap occurred.
