Hey Ram kicks up dirt for `insult' to Mahatma
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

CALCUTTA, FEB 21

Kamal Hassan's film Hey Ram faced some opposition here on Tuesday when a group of West Bengal Chhatra Parishad activists tore apart a poster of the film alleging it had communal content and projected the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi in bad light.

The agitators attacked a North Calcutta cinema hall showing the film and protested against its screening, police said.

Later, the group marched in a procession to the nearby Shyampukur police station and submitted a memorandum which alleged that the movie, revolving around the life and times of Gandhi, contained `unsavoury things' about the Father of the Nation.

It also said comments on Bengali poet Jibanananda Das were `objectionable'.

The film starring Hassan, Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee was released last week in the city.
