EB startle Churchill
Calcutta, Feb 21: East Bengal jolted table toppers Churchill Brothers 2-1 in a National Football League tie at Salt Lake Stadium on Monday. While Ukrainian Andrei Malchevsky put Churchill in the lead, Brazilian Ossius Louis Fereira equalised for East Bengal before Dipankar Roy struck the winner early in the second half. East Bengal's victory came as a boon for Mohun Bagan, now locked in a struggle for the title with Churchill. While the Goans have 31 points from 16 outings, Bagan have 29 points by playing a match less. A win over a Dempo at the same venue on Tuesday would propel the city team to the top of the chart. Despite this victory, East Bengal are virtually out ofthe title race, having managed only 20 points from 16 ties.
