Porters halt onion auctions
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NASHIK, MARCH 14: Onion auctions at various onion purchasing centres including Lasalgaon, Pimpalgaon, Baswant in the district could not be conducted Monday after hamals porters went on a flash strike demanding immediate payment of labour charges due to them.

This enraged the farmers, who had brought their produce in tractors and bullock carts for the auction and they staged a rasta roko, police said.

However, hamals withdrew their agitation after district collector Kishor Gajbhiye assured them that their dues would be paid within two days.
