Inzamam given suspended fine
KARACHI, MARCH 15: Pakistan vice-captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was handed a 25 per cent match fee fine -- suspended for six months -- for criticising the Sri Lankan players. ``Inzamam-ul-Haq has also been severely reprimanded. As a penalty, he has been handed a suspended 25 per cent match fee fine applicable for six months,'' match referee Brian Hastings said in a statement on Wednesday after Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in the third and final Test by 222 runs. Haq told reporters after his match-winning 138 on Tuesday that the Sri Lankan fielders sledged him throughout his innings and disturbed his concentration. ``There has to be a limit and I think they crossed it,'' Haq said. Hastings said: ``It's unfortunate that I have to penalise him after a wonderful innings. But he has breached the International Cricket Council (ICC) players' code of conduct by criticising the opposition.'' Hastings also imposed a 25 per cent fine on all of the Pakistan players for a slow over-rate in the first innings. Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
