Deathly Aundh pool to host kid's competition
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

PUNE, MARCH 17: The very same Aundh Sports Club-run swimming pool which saw the tragic death of a school student will now, believe it or not, conduct the first Mayor's swimming championship - 2000.

The civic administration's enquiry report has pulled up the Aundh Sports Club which runs the Pune Municipal Corporation's Aundh swimming pool. It clearly states that there was no life-saving equipment at the pool.

Mayor Datta Gaikwad is brazenly flaunting a to-hell-with-the-enquiry-reportattitude. He has given the go-ahead for organising the swimming championship for children below 13 years. Children below five years have also been invited to participate in the competition which will be held on Saturday.

In the civic corridors, things seem to be hotting up for Gaikwad as a meeting of all party leaders in the PMC will discuss the demand for his resignation.

The BJP had demanded the Mayor's resignation holding him morally responsible for the death of a student N G Nande in the swimming pool, run by the Aundh Sports Club which was founded by the Mayor. The enquiry report had categorically held the Aundh Sports Club responsible for Nande's death.
