Heavy cross-border firing in Jammu sector
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

JAMMU, MARCH 18: Indian and Pakistani troops have been exchanging heavy fire in various sectors along Line of Control (LOC) and International Border (IB) in Jammu division killing one infiltrator, official reports said here on Saturday.

The reports said unprovoked firing and shelling by Pakistani troops in R S Pura and Samba sectors along the IB and Chamb and Khari Karmara sectors along the LOC since Friday has been adequately responded to by Indian troops.

The exchange of firing with medium to heavy machine gunsfrom both sides continued at 15 places along IB since Friday night without any damage on Indian side, the reports said, adding intermittent firing was continuing at some places when last reports came in.

One Pakistani infiltrator was killed by the troops when three ultras tried to sneak into the Indian side in Khari Karmara area from across the LOC on Friday. Some arms and ammunition, including one AK-47 rifle and Rs 14,000 in Indian currency was recovered from the slain infiltrator.

Pakistani troops had provided firing cover to them, but retailatory fire by Indian soldiers forced them to retreat. Some Pakistani bunkers are also reported to have been damaged in retaliatory firing and shelling by Indian troops across Chamb, Naushera and Swajian sectors on Friday, the reports added.
