BJP can fill political void in Assam -- Sushma GUWAHATI, MARCH 18: BJP leader and former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday asserted that her party has the potential to fill the "political vacuum" in Assam during the 2001 Assembly elections. Swaraj said people, being "fed up" with both ruling AGP and Opposition Congress, were looking forward to BJP to fill the "vacuum." The electorate's faith in BJP was evident during the last Lok Sabha polls when it won two of the 12 seats it contested and came second behind the winning Congress in the rest leaving AGP in third position, she said. In Assam two key issues would be taken up during the coming elections - development of the state and end of terrorism. "We are committed to end terrorism from the Northeast region, particularly Assam, and bring development to the area." Copyright © 2000 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
