Tension over cow slaughter
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

AURANGABAD, MARCH 18: Tension prevailed in most parts of the city on Saturday over rumours of a cow slaughter in the Kailash Nagar area early this morning.

Shops downed shutters as the Shiv Sena MP, Chandrakant Khaire, led a morcha to the Collectorate demanding action against those involved in the ``mischief''.

However, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the city. All the four members of the family that stay in the house where the alleged animal was slaughtered have been arrested.

The incident however could not have come at a worse time for the police.

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation elections are just around the corner, April 9, and many candidates view the ``episode'' as a boost to their prospects.

Moreover, with Monday being Holi, the tension over the issue is far from over, with a section of political parties bent on ``cashing on it''.
