Cop hurt as mob atacks police party
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

NAGPUR, MARCH 25: A police party that went to serve arrest warrants on two persons from Budhwaripeth, Umred, was attacked by a mob on Friday afternoon. A police constable received serious injuries on head in the attack and has been hospitalised.

According to the Rural police, a police party led by constable Devaji Mahajan and consisting of PCs Harpalsingh Senger, Arun Dubey, Ashoksingh Thakur and Naresh, had gone to Budhwaripeth to serve warrant on Karim Ahmed Kazi (22) and Mohammed Shafi Gani Siddiqui (32), both of whom are facing criminal prosecution in the court.

However, even before the policemen could do their job, a crowd consisting mostly of relatives of the two persons, gathered at the place and prevented the cops from doing their duty. When the policemen resisted, they were bashed up and their uniforms torn. Some members of the crowd even pelted stones on the police party.

As the situation started getting tense, the team made a hasty retreat.

Constable Devaji Mahajan sustained injuries on head and was later shifted to CIIMS Hospital here.
