Employee, cops foil robbery bid
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, MARCH 31: Brandishing a toy gun, two men on Friday stormed a jewellery shop in the capital's bustling Connaught Place market here and made an abortive attempt to take away ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh.

Two police constables, swung into action following an alarm raised by an employee of the jewellery shop. They managed to overpower one of the robbers when the duo was trying to escape with the booty, Assistant Commissioner of Police S M Bhaskar said here.

The incident took place in the afternoon when two men entered Dadinch Jewellers, tied the arms of the employees behind their back at gun point and stole ornaments worth Rs 12 lakh.

Even as they were leaving the shop with the loot, one of the employees managed to free his hands and raised an alarm. This caught the attention of the two constables on patrol.

The policemen chased the robbers and caught hold of one of them identified as Lekh Raj. But his accomplice, a rickshaw puller, managed to escape, Bhaskar said.

The "gun" brandished by the duo was later found to be a toy, he said.
