Backwards, tribals, minorities going away from Congress
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

BHOPAL, MAY 16: The Madhya Pradesh convention of Congress representatives from backwards, tribals, scheduled caste-tribes and minorities today assailed the state government for "step-motherly attitude" towards them and said that was why these classes were drifting away from Congress.

The convention, attended among others by the deputy Chief Minister Jamuna Devi, nine party MLAs, several former ministers and MLAs, decided to submit a memorandum to party president Sonia Gandhi about the "feelings of these classes."

"The Congress was ruling the country for four decades with the co-operation from these classes but apathy led them to cut away from the party", speakers at the convention including Jamuna Devi, said.

Convenor of the convention and former state Minister, Bisahu Lal Singh cited example of the members of Lok Sabha from the state stating that from among total 40 seats, 15 were reserved for the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes.

"Of these 15, the Congress used to win ten or eleven seats for several years but now the position is that the party has only three seats in its pocket", he added.
