TN CM blames opposition parties on tea growers stir issue
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

CHENNAI, MAY 16: Tamilnadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today charged the opposition parties in the state with `politicising' the problems of the growers in Nilgiris district.

Opposing leave for an adjournment motion in the state assembly on the issue, he said the state and central governments had accepted some of their demands which had even been acknowledged by the action committee of the tea growers.

Due to instigation by some parties, who were even funding the agitation, the farmers were going on agitation, he said adding that the government would not tolerate such stirs.

On the issue of lathi charge on tea growers at Udhagamandalam yesterday, he said the procession, taken out demanding just price for tea, turned violent and pelted stones at police and public. Eleven police personnel and three farmers were injured in stone pelting. Forty seven persons had been taken into custody in connection with the incidents.
