Bodo organisations call bandh on May 18
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

GUWAHATI, MAY 16: The All Bodo Students Union, Bodo Peoples' Action Committee and other allied organisations have called a dawn-to-dusk Assam Bandh on May 18.

The ABSU president, U G Brahma, told PTI from Kokrajhar today that the Bandh has been called in association with the Bodoland Peoples' Party and the Autonomous State Demand Committee to protest against the Centre's alleged discriminatory move in granting separate states to various ethnic groups.

"The Centre has decided to introduce the bill for the creation of Jharkhand and Chattisgarh but unfortunately it has overlooked the genuine demand for the creation of a separate Bodoland out of present Assam," Brahma said.

He also warned the Centre that the Union would launch a "vigorous mass movement" in future if their demands are not conceded.
