Addition to Afro-Asian Games

New Delhi, May 28: Two more disciplines -- hockey and weightlifting -- have been added to the Afro-Asian Games to be held in New Delhi next year.

Randhir Singh informed the house about the inclusion of two disciplines and free air travel and board and lodging to all participants and officials for the inaugural games. Besides Samaranch, several IOC members and other dignatories attended the Afro-Asian Games Council meeting.

During the meeting, sports minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to the delegates of the council from Asia and Africa. The minister assured all support to the Games from the government.

Chairman of the New Delhi Afro-Asian Games organising committee and president NOC of India Suresh Kalmadi assured the council that New Delhi Afro-Asian Games would be commercially viable. He also informed the house about the progress made at the New Delhi venues after the council members visited them on March 5.
