Goa SSC exam pass percentage goes up

PANAJI, MAY 31: Amrita Prasad Nevrekar of Mustifund High School, Panaji topped the merit list by securing 93.20 per cent marks in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Education in March 2000.

While Sherwin Simon Connel Godinho of Regina Mundi High School, Chicolim Vasco with 92.40 per cent marks and Anusha Santosh Kerkar of M and N English High School, Margao with 92.13 per cent bagged second and third place, respectively.

The chairman of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Vinayak Parab announcing the results on Wednesday told reporters that of the total 16,444 students, who appeared for the examination, 10,932 have passed out successfully with giving a passing percentage of 66.48 per cent.

The passing percentage this year is 7.70 per cent higher than that of the last year which was 58.78 per cent. Under the exempted category, out of 2024 students who appeared for the examination, only 563 students were successful.

Parab further said that the performance of the boys and girls in the current examination has been almost the same. The pass percentage of boys is 61.74 and that of girls is 62. 78 per cent.

Among the toppers, girls have surpassed the boys. 28 girls figure in the merit list against 23 boys. The toppers are spread over in 24 schools. Presentation Convent High School, Margao has the honour of having the highest number of toppers (six).

This year 22 prizes have been given to the top scorers in the concerned categories. Some of these awards are shared among candidates, as their scores have been the same. 26 students from 21 schools have qualified for these awards.

Two schools, namely the Presentation Convent High School, Margao and St. Francise Xavier High School, Mapusa, which have 124 students and 43 students in the merit list, respectively have the honour of cent percent result.
