Rs 1.16 lakh burgled from govt office

NAGPUR, JUNE 8: In a major burglary, unidentified miscreants stole cash worth over Rs 1.16 lakh from the Office of the Sub Registrar at Mahakalkar building in Raghuji Nagar area here sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

According to police, the thieves entered the office building through the main gates by breaking the locks and collected cash Rs 50,485 from the safe at the office of the Sub Registrar No 2. Later, they moved on to the offices of Sub Registrars Nos 5, 8 and 9 in the same building and collected cash Rs 27,772, Rs 16,305 and Rs 20,668 from the office safe, respectively.

The incident came to light on Thursday morning when the office was opened as usual for daily transactions and the staffers found the locks broken. The Sakkardara police were summoned at the site and senior officers followed later for an inspection. An offence of criminal trespass and theft has been registered and further probe was on.
